Sharksbite Thursday Night Run

Charlotte Running Company 4.44 Miles

Winner, Ian Seeney sports his Charlotte Running Company shirt, while I try to find his name. By the way, that's the new Ramble Trail Half Marathon shirt I'm wearing. How sweet is that for an event shirt (if I do say so myself)?
*Advertisement* - The Ramble takes place May 17th at 9:00AM. Information and registration may be found at www.trailevents.com |
Matt Chisholm relaxes and enjoys the finish (this is the best place to watch the ladies without looking like a stalker). |

This is probably the most I've concentrated in a week.

Another record night for
attendance at the Sharksbite Thursday Night 4.44 Miler was greeted with
perfect weather. With the long, beautiful finishing straight,
Footfeathers thought it would be neat to have a big finish line clock
for the participants (and growing spectator crowd) to view during the
event. As the numbers continue to grow, we may need to bring in an
electronic timing system. Trying to hunt down a name on a hand
written list of runners as they blast across the finish line is too
stressful for me and cuts into my watching the run unfold while drinking
a cold beer in my foldable chair. With Brad Popple MIA, James Haycraft recognized his opportunity to sneak in with a win, so he warmed up with a couple miles and was fire-hot ready at the start line. Unknown to everyone but Footfeathers, former Charlotte resident, Ian Seeney, was in town for one night (he now resides in the lovely "garden state" of New Jersey - *stereotyping here* smog, #1 aggressive drivers in the usa, 2nd rate mobsters. At least Ian's a pilot, so he spends much of his time in places other than home base.) Oh yeah, so Ian's in town for one night, our night, the Sharksbite night. I've run with Ian before and had the insight that James would have to run a smart race to beat him. I believe there was a good race going on. At the water stop Ian only had a few strides on James, who looked comfortable at that point. In the later stages of the race James lost a contact and spent two minutes fiddling with his eyeball, allowing not only Ian to pull away, but also Jason Holder to overtake 2nd place. The red-eyed James was in good spirits at the finish just the same. Eimear Goggin continued her dominance after last week's 2nd place finish, with another win tonight, followed by Genia Tsvetkova, who set a personal record at 36:41. Suzi Zikeli pushed through for 3rd, with new young lady, Courtney Clark nipping the strong Elizabeth Skettino for 4th. Footfeathers was really happy to see the female turnout tonight; it gets tiresome hanging out with sweaty guys whining about race points they thought they deserved (Pete Hunt), so having the lovely ladies come out, especially when they bring their cool dogs like Christa Cahill, is refreshing! After the run many headed over to Brixx for some good food and beer specials. There were a couple groups outside and some inside. Nice bunch of people!
Christa and Elliot Cahill bring it home (Elliot acts as though he ran the entire time, but he was spotted being carried by Christa like a football. The Thursday night run is for all abilities and open to everyone (well, almost everyone). Come out and enjoy the free timed run the free food and bottled water, the great give-aways, and all the nice people you'll meet. The only requirement is that you bring or buy a beer for the Race Director at some point. Photos by Jim Payne. Jim joined us again tonight to take some of his great photos. He has refined the still portraits and landscapes, but was new to "action" shots; I believe he's getting the hang of it now. I've linked it so you can see his other photography. To get to our runs, just scroll down to the "Running" gallery. He's set it up so anyone may download the high res originals for his/her own personal use. Next time you see Jim, thank him. Also, don't miss the Mt. Holly Springfest 5k this Saturday, May 3rd. |

Chris and Clay Hooker shoot off the line for the 200 meter dash competition
Travis Anthony nips James by .02 seconds at the line for 3rd. They were both nearly flattened by oncoming traffic, but a win is a win, and we all have our priorities. |
Consistent Jason Holder "holds" on for 2nd place. With Matt Antunes and Adam Newman missing tonight's run, and with his strong showing over other top guys, Jason jumps from 7th to 3rd in the overall points series. Way to go Jason! |
5 bonus points for every new person (must have a pulse) you bring to the run, 6 points if it's a girl (7 if she's single).
