Charlotte Running Company 4.44 Miles

Julia Olson.  "T! T! Time out! I'm burnin' My lungs are burnin'."

Here's a good view of the finishing straight.  It's sweet!

Mohammed Idlibi relaxes before the start.

We meet at the Charlotte Running Co. to sign in.

Of course, in the photo he's wearing a Jus Running store shirt; he was pulled aside and this situation was "taken care of".

Another beautiful night greeted the runners for the Sharksbite Thursday Night Fun Race, even if it was a bit on the warm side.  Jim Payne was back this week as our photographer as he continues his recovery and rehab from a nasty trail running accident.  He's up to a mile running and gets out on his bike now.  Selfishly, when he gets back to running form, we will lose our great photographer and will be left with my fuzzy, off center shots.

There was a lot of tension and nerves before the start.  A lot was on the line for many of the participants.  Brad Popple, fresh off his disqualification for running off course last week resorted to writing the course directions on his arm in giant permanent marker (you can see the writing on his arm in the following photo:

This boy can run.  Matt, James, and I chased him for the first two miles at a 5:40 pace before backing off on the engines in the dawning knowledge that Mr. Popple was on a mission and untouchable....this week.

On the women's side, Eimear Goggin had her work cut out for her with newcomer, Julia Olson, playing cat and mouse, exchanging the lead with Eimear until finally pulling away for a 29 second victory and new course record at 33:04.  Eimear is still the overall points leader, and showed no fear, knowing that Julia missed the first two races and, therefore, the participation points totaling 200.  Hopefully, by the end of the Grand Prix, I'll get caught up and have the points totals calculated.

After running hard the first two miles, Footfeathers (yes, I'm writing in third person about myself in a mixture of third person omniscient, limited, and objective.  This should only be attempted by the most adept craftsperson of words....or the idiot writing about a running club fun race).  Anyway, after running hard the first two miles, Footfeathers, lingered at the "Brenny Thompson" water stop, cheering on the other runners, before realizing he would have to run all the way back to the finish to record times.  So, in essence, Footfeathers was disqualified this week for running through Freedom park, cutting .2 miles off the course.  Disgraceful (but fun).

Thanks to some of the new people for joining us in our weekly running of the Sharks: Mandy Lee, Joanna Clark, Colorado resident, Anya Bronowski, long time Sharksbite members back again, Sean Welsh and Karen Gueldner.  Great also, to have Don Hirschfeld back.

The Thursday night run is for all abilities and open to everyone (well, almost everyone).  Come out and enjoy the free timed run the free food and bottled water, the great give-aways, and all the nice people you'll meet.  The only requirement is that you bring or buy a beer for the Race Director at some point.

Photos by Jim Payne.

He took a couple hundred photos after working a 12 hour day.  I've linked it so you can see his other photography.  To get to our runs, just scroll down to the "Running" gallery.  He's set it up so anyone may download the high res originals for his/her own personal use.  Next time you see Jim, thank him.

Also, don't miss the 3rd annual Waxhaw 5k TONIGHT at 7pm.

The start!  Brad Popple already has a 50 meter lead.  Footfeathers probably wouldn't be very good eatin' if ever a cannibalism situation presented itself.

Brian  Trotter eyes the young Mr. Hooker before the race.  Do you think he had a premonition of the pending duel?

Brian Trotter (nearest) and William Hooker broke into a sprint for the finish in the last 100 meters.  Upon further viewing of the still photos, the win in this sub-race was given to the young Mr. Hooker.  Both men ran personal records.  How fun does that look?!!

5 bonus points for every new person (must have a pulse) you bring to the run, 6 points if it's a girl (7 if she's single).
